Black Ops IIII... What We Know So Far

Ever since news announced of the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops 4, anticipation has been at an all-time high for the series. So as a result, rumors and leaks have been flying around the internet, and in order to make sense of it all let’s break down what we know so far.

First of all, apparently there are going to be some major changes to the multiplayer mode. From the sound of things, the devs over at Treyarch are doing everything possible to make the new Call of Duty seem new, fresh, and exciting. However, according to a leak from an anonymous user, things aren’t looking great so far. According to the user, the Call of Duty devs tested out a version of multiplayer that worked similarly to the gameplay style of Overwatch or copycat Lawbreakers. At first glance the decision makes sense, I mean, after all, Activision is a Blizzard subsidiary and Overwatch is one of the most popular multiplayer shooters. Still, it appears that decision has fallen flat. The user outlines the new multiplayer in detail saying, “The game was going to take the “hero” or “specialist” system from Black Ops 3 and take it to the next level. Perks were basically removed completely and had instead been morphed into a strange kind of Kill Streak. Normal Killstreaks as we know them, for example harrier jets or chopper gunners didn’t in fact exist in this version of Black Ops 4. Instead you got highly powerful perks. One of which was a Movement Alteration. It literally changed your movement from Boots on The Ground to something very strongly resembling Black Ops 3’s advanced movement systems. This fell flat with play testers. They didn’t like it at all. It was deemed an unfair portrayal of Call of Duty, and something that wouldn’t resonate with fans in the slightest. So, as of the last playtest, things are changing.”

According to the user, the devs seem to be grasping at straws trying to find a successful new multiplayer formula for Call of Duty. Of course, we must remember that this is just a leak and we can’t actually verify any of this information. Ultimately, we have to take this news with a grain of salt. Is the new Call of Duty multiplayer in a complete state of disarray? Will Black Ops 4 finally change the way we look at Call of Duty and take back its place as the number one multiplayer shooter? These questions will likely be answered at the Community Reveal Event launching on May 17th.
