Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 now support cross-generation matchmaking on PlayStation, allowing PS4 and PS5 players to join the same multiplayer lobbies. The announcement came after fans questioned whether the newly released ports would separate players based on console generation.
The update means players on both PlayStation platforms can play together in Multiplayer and Zombies, helping maintain a healthier online player base and making it easier to find matches. Treyarch also confirmed that Season Pass owners can matchmake together regardless of whether they're playing on PS4 or PS5.
While the addition of cross-generation matchmaking has been welcomed by the community, some players continue to criticize the ports for lacking modern enhancements such as graphical upgrades, quality-of-life improvements, and stronger anti-cheat measures. Even so, the ability to unite the PS4 and PS5 player base is seen as an important improvement for the long-term health of the games' online multiplayer.
