Call of Duty League Major IV Qualifiers Week 3 Day 1 Recap: FaZe Vegas Dominate, Thieves and Gentle Mates Win in Four

Week 3 of the Call of Duty League Major IV Qualifiers opened with three matches that helped continue shaping the race toward Major IV. FaZe Vegas delivered the most dominant performance of the day with a clean 3-0 sweep over the Riyadh Falcons, while the Los Angeles Thieves and Paris Gentle Mates both handled business in four-map victories.

FaZe looked completely in control from the opening map, the Thieves leaned on their respawn strength to take down Cloud9 New York, and Paris Gentle Mates bounced back from a Search and Destroy loss to close out Boston Breach.

FaZe Vegas Sweep Riyadh Falcons in One-Sided Fashion

FaZe Vegas started the day with the most convincing win of the slate, taking down the Riyadh Falcons 3-0 without ever allowing the series to feel close.

The series opened on Gridlock Hardpoint, where FaZe set the tone immediately. The Falcons were able to put together some time, but FaZe controlled the pace and rotations far better throughout the map. Vegas pulled away for a 250-166 win, giving themselves an early advantage and putting pressure on Riyadh heading into Search and Destroy.

That pressure only grew on Gridlock SnD. FaZe completely shut the Falcons down, winning the map 6-1. Riyadh struggled to find any rhythm in the mode, while Vegas looked comfortable playing with the lead and forcing Falcons into difficult situations round after round.

The final map was Gridlock Overload, and it was even more lopsided. FaZe closed the series with a 7-0 win, ending the match in dominant fashion. After winning all three maps on Gridlock, FaZe finished the sweep with map counts of 250-166, 6-1, and 7-0.

For FaZe Vegas, this was exactly the kind of result they needed: clean, fast, and decisive. For the Falcons, it was a rough outing where they were unable to make any of the three maps competitive enough to threaten the series.

Final: FaZe Vegas win 3-0

Los Angeles Thieves Beat Cloud9 New York Behind Strong Respawns

The second match of the day saw the Los Angeles Thieves take down Cloud9 New York 3-1. While New York found life in Search and Destroy, the Thieves were the better team in the respawn modes and used that advantage to close the series before it reached a fifth map.

Los Angeles opened strong on Hacienda Hardpoint. The Thieves controlled the map well and built a comfortable lead, eventually winning 250-158. It was a statement opening map from LA and gave them immediate control of the series.

Cloud9 New York answered back on Sake Search and Destroy. After being handled in the opening Hardpoint, New York responded with a much cleaner performance, winning 6-2 and tying the series 1-1. The SnD showed that Cloud9 still had a path in the matchup if they could drag the Thieves into more slower-paced situations.

Map 3 on Scar Overload became the swing map of the series. It was the closest map of the match, but the Thieves edged it out 3-2. That win was massive for Los Angeles, putting them back ahead 2-1 and forcing Cloud9 to win the next Hardpoint to stay alive.

Cloud9 fought harder on Den Hardpoint than they did in the opener, but the Thieves still came out on top. LA won the map 250-210, closing the series 3-1 and avoiding a deciding Game 5 Search and Destroy.

The win showed the Thieves’ ability to lean on their respawn game when needed. They won both Hardpoints and the Overload, which was enough to overcome the Search and Destroy loss and secure the match.

Final: Los Angeles Thieves win 3-1

Paris Gentle Mates Hold Off Boston Breach

Paris Gentle Mates closed out the day with a 3-1 win over Boston Breach. The series started with a dominant opening map from Paris, but Boston made them work for the victory, especially in the final Hardpoint.

Paris came out firing on Gridlock Hardpoint, crushing Boston 250-121. It was one of the more one-sided maps of the day and gave the Gentle Mates a perfect start to the series. Their pacing and control looked sharp, while Boston struggled to keep up throughout the map.

Boston responded on Fringe Search and Destroy. After dropping the opener by a wide margin, the Breach answered with a 6-3 win to even the series. It was an important bounce-back map and prevented Paris from taking full control early.

The Gentle Mates regained the lead on Den Overload. Paris played a much cleaner map and won 3-1, putting themselves ahead 2-1 in the series. After losing the Search and Destroy, their response in Overload was key.

Map 4 on Sake Hardpoint was the closest map of the series and nearly pushed the match to a Game 5. Boston battled throughout and kept the score tight late, but Paris held on for a 250-233 win. That narrow Hardpoint victory sealed the 3-1 series win for the Gentle Mates.

For Paris, the result was important because they showed they could recover after dropping Search and Destroy and still close out a competitive series. For Boston, the final map will sting, as they had a real chance to force a deciding SnD but fell just short.

Final: Paris Gentle Mates win 3-1

Day 1 Takeaways

FaZe Vegas had the cleanest performance of the day, sweeping the Riyadh Falcons with three straight dominant maps on Gridlock. Their 7-0 Overload win was the strongest single-map statement of the day and capped off a completely controlled series.

The Los Angeles Thieves also had a solid showing, defeating Cloud9 New York 3-1 behind strong respawn play. Even after losing Search and Destroy, the Thieves stayed composed and won the key Overload before closing the match in Hardpoint.

Paris Gentle Mates finished the day with a 3-1 victory over Boston Breach, though Boston made the final map close. Paris’ ability to win both Hardpoints and the Overload gave them the edge, while Boston’s Search and Destroy win was not enough to extend the series.

With Week 3 now underway, FaZe Vegas, Los Angeles Thieves, and Paris Gentle Mates all opened their qualifier week with important wins. FaZe did it in dominant fashion, while the Thieves and Gentle Mates showed enough control in respawns to close their matches before a Game 5.
