New Division on Call of Duty WWII

Call of Duty fans may be focusing all their attention towards Black Ops 4, but that doesn’t mean Sledgehammer games is packing it up on Call of Duty WWII just yet. In the recent community update from Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games, there was a pretty significant hint alluding to the inclusion of a new “Division” that possibly centers around riot shields.

In the latest update there is a segment that states, “We’ve got a game update going live next week, so get ready! Keep an eye out for notes on Reddit” and also, “Call in the Calvary. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s coming next week” followed by a picture of a soldier with a mask and riot shield. This little detail has caused many to speculate that next week Call of Duty WWII will unveil a new “Calvary” division whose primary advantage is a riot shield.

If you have been a fan of the Call of Duty franchise for a while now you probably know that riot shields have been something Call of Duty developers have been trying to make work for quite some time now. The riot shield was introduced in Modern Warfare 2 and stuck around until Call of Duty Infinite Warfare where it was cut out. Whether or not somebody is a fan of the riot shield usually depends on who you ask. Some casual players enjoy them because they provide for ample opportunity for silly gameplay whether it’s making everyone on one team use them and trapping enemies in a corner or just generally being a nuisance on the battlefield as the riot shield makes you a significantly harder target. That being said competitive players pretty much unanimously hate the item for said annoying reasons and as such is usually a banned item in competitive play.

As of now, there is no word yet on whether or not Call of Duty developers are looking to make the riot shield more balance with the newest iteration or if it will be the same item used to make competitive players rage. Hopefully, we will find out next week.
