Raven Software is shaking up Call of Duty: Warzone’s competitive scene in Season 2, bringing back Ranked play and introducing a brand-new mode.
Competitive modes were removed when Black Ops 7 launched last November, as developers took time to rework the system. Ranked play is now set to return shortly after the Season 2 update on February 5, though it won’t be identical to its previous version.
Ranked Play: Resurgence is making a comeback, this time taking place on the Haven’s Hollow map instead of Rebirth Island. Alongside it, Raven is introducing Iron Gauntlet, a new mode positioned as a successor to Iron Trials. Iron Gauntlet changes core Warzone mechanics — including player health, loot balance, and loadout availability — to create a more skill-driven, competitive Battle Royale experience, expected to be played on Verdansk.
The two competitive modes won’t be live at the same time. Instead, they will rotate, meaning when Iron Gauntlet is active, Ranked Resurgence will be unavailable, and vice versa. Developers say this rotation helps improve matchmaking, keeps the competitive player base concentrated, and allows clearer feedback on each mode.
