AUG Returns in Warzone Season 5 — and It Might Dominate Again
If you played Warzone during the Black Ops Cold War era, you’ll likely remember just how dominant the AUG was. Now, it’s making a comeback in Black Ops 6’s Season 5 update.
While the DMR meta may be the most infamous, the AUG’s reign wasn’t far behind. This burst-fire Tactical Rifle could down enemies with a single burst from across the map, thanks to its minimal recoil and overwhelming power. For a time, it had no real counter — until it was eventually nerfed after weeks of complaints.
Now, it’s back on August 7, and it might just shake things up all over again.
AUG, Now the ABR A1, Could Shake Up the Meta
Reintroduced as the ABR A1, the former AUG is a three-round burst Assault Rifle. However, it also features a Fire Mod attachment that allows full-auto fire, adding to its versatility.
While it’s too early to say exactly how it will impact the meta, the developers have made it clear that the weapon is no slouch.
In the Season 5 blog, they wrote: “The ABR A1 combines a high damage output that can drop enemies in tight three-round bursts with a brief pause in between — almost fast enough to be called automatic.”
They describe it as a “highly versatile weapon” that excels in close- to mid-range fights, though not ideal at long range. With manageable recoil, strong damage, and solid handling, it seems tailor-made to become a top-tier choice once again.
New Weapons Often Lead the Meta
It’s also worth noting that new weapons often launch in a strong state. For example, the LC10 quickly became the best SMG in Season 4 and held that position through to the season’s final week. While the new PML 5.56 LMG also arrives in Season 5, its poor mobility and high recoil may limit its potential compared to the ABR A1.
