Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Confirmed for PlayStation
Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are coming to PlayStation in July.
The studio shared the news on social media and revealed that Iron Galaxy is handling the ports. Treyarch also confirmed that both games will include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies at launch.
The return of Black Ops marks the first time many PlayStation players will be able to experience these titles on modern hardware. Both games remain among the most popular entries in the Call of Duty series.
Released in 2010, Black Ops built a strong following through its Cold War campaign, fast-paced multiplayer, and Zombies mode. Maps such as Kino der Toten became fan favorites and helped establish Zombies as a core part of the franchise.
Black Ops 2 arrived in 2012 and pushed the series into a near-future setting. The game introduced branching story paths, the Pick 10 create-a-class system, and a multiplayer experience that many players still rank among the best in Call of Duty history.
Zombies also played a major role in Black Ops 2. Maps such as Origins, Mob of the Dead, and Buried remain popular with longtime fans.
The announcement has already sparked discussion across the Call of Duty community. For many players, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 represent a high point for the franchise, and their return to PlayStation is one of the most requested releases in recent years.
What We Still Don't Know
While Treyarch has confirmed the games are coming to PlayStation, several important details remain unknown.
The company has not said whether these releases are simple ports, remasters, or full remakes. That information will help players understand what level of visual and technical improvements to expect.
There is also no word on resolution or frame-rate targets. Treyarch has not confirmed support for features such as 4K resolution, 120 FPS gameplay, or other enhancements for current-generation consoles.
Cross-play support remains unclear. The studio has not announced whether PlayStation players will be able to play with users on Xbox or PC.
Questions also remain about downloadable content. Treyarch has not revealed whether classic DLC multiplayer maps and Zombies maps will be included with the base games or sold separately.
Pricing has not been announced. Players are still waiting to learn how much each title will cost and whether bundle options will be available.
More information is expected as the July release window approaches.
