EA Pushes Battlefield REDSEC Open Series to 2026 Amid Technical Issues
Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that the inaugural season of the Battlefield REDSEC Open Series will no longer kick off in 2025 as initially planned and has been pushed back into 2026 due to an in-game issue affecting the competition’s integrity.
EA explained on social media that while both the Open and Elite competitive circuits were meant to launch side-by-side, a specific problem in the Open Series environment means it can’t start this year. The developer acknowledged this will be disappointing for players and fans but said the extra time will help ensure a smoother experience.
As a result of the delay, the Open Series will no longer begin on 12 December 2025, and EA intends to share further details and new timing updates in the coming year. The Open Series was designed as Battlefield REDSEC’s amateur esports pathway, open to squads of all skill levels across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. Each regional finals offered a $10,000 prize for the top teams and a chance to qualify for future Elite competition.
Although the Open Series has been postponed, EA originally planned for the REDSEC Elite Series — the professional tier — to proceed in December 2025 with matches on the 10th, 11th and 16th, leading into regional Season Finals on the 18th. That competition was to feature 50 drafted teams per region battling through a mix of battle royale and Gauntlet rounds for a share of a $1 million prize pool.
