Warzone’s New Black Ops Royale Mode Drops Some of the Series’ Most Beloved Features
Raven Software has officially revealed Black Ops Royale, a fresh battle royale experience coming to Call of Duty: Warzone that’s inspired by Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode — but it takes a more stripped-back approach compared to traditional Warzone.
Instead of giving players their familiar custom loadouts and the chance to fight their way back through the Gulag, Black Ops Royale focuses on pure scavenging and survival on the massive Avalon map, the same setting introduced in Black Ops 7’s Endgame mode. Up to 100 players will drop in with just a wingsuit and a pistol, then have to find weapons and gear on the ground if they want to stand a chance.
Weapons in this mode have rarity levels — from common to rare — that influence how effective they are, and instead of picking up attachments one by one, players use special Attachment Kits found around the map to upgrade them.
One of Warzone’s most talked-about mechanics, the Gulag, is gone here. But you aren’t necessarily out for good when you’re taken down: Redeploy Tokens let you automatically return to the match after being eliminated, or your squad can bring you back together by securing a Redeployment Tower — a capture-style objective that enemies can contest.
Another major Warzone staple that’s missing in Black Ops Royale is in-game cash and Buy Stations. Instead, players will need to make do with what they find in the world or earn through activities.
Black Ops Royale is set to launch on March 12, 2026, with more changes and details revealed as its launch approaches
