Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s campaign finale will allegedly feature a large-scale 32-player multiplayer extraction mission—the first of its kind in the franchise.
Set in 2035, the game follows David Mason’s squad through Japan and the futuristic city of Avalon, continuing the storyline from Black Ops II. The campaign blends espionage with advanced warfare, while multiplayer brings back remastered classics like Raid, Express, and Hijacked. Specialist abilities make a return, but Pick 10 is removed, and movement remains grounded.
With Gamescom’s August 19 reveal approaching, new leaks suggest the campaign will end in a surprising way.
A Multiplayer-Driven Ending
According to Insider Gaming, the final mission won’t be a traditional single-player conclusion. Instead, players will be dropped into a 32-person extraction mission on Avalon, a map long rumored to also serve as a Battle Royale location.
Some parts of Avalon appear earlier in the campaign through up to four-player co-op missions, but the full version of the map is reportedly reserved for the finale.
The mission is said to play like an extraction shooter: squads must complete objectives, fight off enemy teams, and extract successfully. If an entire squad is eliminated, all progress is lost. Sources described the experience as intense and compared it to some of the toughest extraction modes currently available.
Unified Progression
The finale will reportedly tie into Black Ops 7’s shared progression system, which spans campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. Weapons, characters, and the Battle Pass will all carry progress across every mode.
If true, this would mark the first time in Call of Duty history that a campaign ends with a multiplayer-focused mission. Traditionally, Black Ops has kept its campaign and multiplayer experiences separate, but this design could blur the line between the two.
If executed well, the change could deliver a more unified conclusion and raise the stakes for story finales. Fans will find out when Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches later in 2025 on all major platforms.
