Two More Teams Reach 2–0 at CDL Stage 2 Major Qualifying
At the Call of Duty League Stage 2 Major qualifying event, Los Angeles Thieves and Paris Gentle Mates both picked up victories on Sunday, moving to a perfect 2–0 record in the early stages of qualification. They now sit alongside OpTic Texas atop the standings.
Two other clubs — Boston Breach and G2 Minnesota — also secured wins, improving their records to 1–1. All 12 CDL teams are participating in a round-robin qualifying format to determine seedings for the Stage 2 Major, which will be played March 27–29 in Marston Green, England, as part of the DreamHack Birmingham event.
The top six teams after qualifying will advance directly to the Major’s playoff bracket, while those finishing seventh through 10th will have to earn their spot through a play-in round. The event champion will walk away with $150,000 and 100 CDL points; the runner-up earns $90,000 and 75 points.
On Sunday, Paris kicked things off with a win over Miami Heretics, taking two of three maps and finishing with a decisive hardpoint victory. Daunte “Sib” Gray led the Gentle Mates’ performance with a strong kill-death differential. Miami’s David “RenKoR” Isern posted the highest individual plus-20 differential of the day despite the loss.
Boston overcame an early deficit against the Riyadh Falcons to claim its first win, while the Thieves dominated the Carolina Royal Ravens, and G2 Minnesota swept Cloud9 New York to notch its first qualifying victory.
Play continues next week with another slate of matches as teams look to secure advantageous positions heading into the Stage 2 Major.
