Black Ops Royale Is Being Removed From Warzone After Less Than a Year

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Black Ops Royale mode is officially coming to an end, with the Blackout-inspired experience set to disappear from the game following the launch of Modern Warfare 4.

Black Ops Royale was introduced with the Season 2 Reloaded update in March 2026, giving Warzone players an alternative take on the traditional Battle Royale formula. Rather than relying on loadouts and the Gulag, the mode focused heavily on looting and survival, while also introducing movement tools such as Wingsuits and Grapple Hooks.

Despite being a relatively new addition, the mode has already developed a dedicated following among Warzone players.

Black Ops Royale’s final season confirmed

Raven Software has now confirmed that Season 6 will be the final opportunity for players to experience Black Ops Royale.

The announcement came as part of the Season 6 update, with the developers encouraging players to get their final victories and complete their Weapon Camos before the mode is removed.

The exact date for its removal has not yet been confirmed, but Black Ops Royale will disappear once Warzone transitions into the Modern Warfare 4 era.

Modern Warfare 4 is expected to integrate with Warzone during its first season, meaning players should have until the current Black Ops 7 cycle comes to an end before the mode is permanently removed.

Players have mixed reactions

The decision has already divided the Warzone community.

Black Ops Royale has repeatedly been removed from the playlist rotation throughout 2026, and previous removals resulted in players asking Raven Software to bring it back. The mode's removal earlier in the year even sparked complaints from several prominent Warzone creators and players.

Some fans believe Black Ops Royale offered a refreshing alternative to standard Warzone, particularly because its lack of traditional loadouts meant players had to rely more heavily on the weapons and equipment they found during a match.

Others, however, believe having another major Battle Royale playlist split the player base and took attention away from the traditional experience.

Black Ops Royale also underwent several playlist changes during its lifespan. Its Solos playlist was eventually removed after developers said it had consistently attracted the lowest player population among Warzone's playlists.

Modern Warfare 4 will change Warzone again

The removal of Black Ops Royale comes as Warzone prepares for another major transition.

Modern Warfare 4 will bring a new collection of weapons, Perks and other gameplay changes when it integrates with Warzone. This means the end of Black Ops Royale will mark another significant shift for the battle royale.

For players who enjoyed the mode, Season 6 represents their final chance to jump into Avalon, earn victories and complete any remaining challenges before Black Ops Royale is retired.

Whether Raven Software eventually brings back a similar Blackout-inspired experience in the future remains to be seen, but for now, Black Ops Royale's time in Warzone is coming to an end.
