Free-To-Play Done Right: Warframe

The words “Free-to-play” is usually the reason for disappointment for most gamers. This is so because in-game micro-transactions are always featured in these and they always affect progression in the game. Warframe is on the verge of breaking this perception and we love it.

Before we move on to how they are breaking stereotypes, let's discuss a little about its background. This game is a third person shooter, which emphasizes a lot on movement and sci-fi imagery. You will find yourself battling Corpus and Grenieer all around your solar system.

Since its 2016 PS4 release, there were some obvious things that made the game helpful on its own. For example, the map codex is so detailed that you will never find yourself scouring the internet for help. Other than this, the shooting perspective of the game is very easy to get used to. The basic mods of the game which make your weapons better are also relatively simple to understand. Even when you advance further into the game, the experiments with mods are interestingly complex.

Now onto the payment model of this free-to-play effort that shapes the future of such games. As discussed before, most of these games require some sort of in-game payment to progress smoothly. Warframe, however, offers the contrary. The gameplay is never interjected with offers that can make your experience easier, nor does it require any such transaction.

The in-game currency called Platinum is used for such things and this can be traded with other players. This trading channel gives you the chance to avail all the offerings if you have saved enough, but even if you don’t you won’t regret it. Some discount codes have also been included in the game which is scored by logging in daily, which can get you up to 75% items; which are also naturally sold in the platinum currency.

The game started with eight unique updates and variants in 2013. Now it remains true to being a free-to-play offering with over thirty-five variants. All the variants look alike but have some exceptions respectively. Octavia seems to be the favorite of most gamers as it has the ability to deal insane amounts of damage and also buff your teammates.

Plains of Eidolon in the newest variant and has introduced Warframe to the modern open-world concept of games. This experiment worked perfectly for the developers as the storylines and cinematic sequences complement this feature. Even though it is a success, the developers are always in contact with their fanbase, communicating new mechanics, skins and many more to encourage their passion for the game. This, alongside the fact that it is literally free, keeps them way ahead of the competition.

There are a lot of free-to-play games out there, and Warframe has set a great example by not finding a loop-hole in this title. This is why we can look forward to some new installments which live up to this expectation of fans, while Warframe comes up with new ideas to galvanize the gaming universe.
