Call of Duty has one of the largest and most consistent player bases year after year, but with Warzone serving as its own standalone Battle Royale experience, just how many are dropping in?
The original Warzone was a huge success for Activision, changing the face of the CoD franchise forever. After Warzone landed, nothing dominated the online gaming space more, and the game reached its peak popularity, prompting a sequel shortly after.
Warzone 2 – later rebranded back to just Warzone – was a highly anticipated overhaul to the original, with many looking forward to its best weapons and new maps, though not everything went to plan. Many boycotted the new maps and fundamental changes over the years, leaving Warzone in a spot of bother entering the Black Ops 6 era.
Call of Duty Warzone player count
The average number of players in December 2025 for Call of Duty was 44,291.4 according to steam charts . This is a pretty large dropoff from the 69,000 seen in April, but at least it’s almost 4k more than in November.
According to twitch tracker December’s average viewers for Warzone was 14,373.
After the OG map came back on April 3, 2025, the average players jumped to over 113,000, the highest it’s been since 2024. It only grew in the following days too, before reaching a peak of nearly 140,000 players on April 6.
However, now that the dust has settled and the following seasons have gotten underway, the player count is on its way back down.
It’s also worth bearing in mind exactly what this player count data reflects. As Call of Duty now bundles all of its offerings into a single launcher, the figures above account for Warzone along with Black Ops 7’s campaign, Zombies, and multiplayer modes. Unfortunately, there’s no way to find player counts for individual components.
Plus, this data only takes PC into account, as the numbers for PlayStation and Xbox aren’t available.
But this still gives us a good idea of how Warzone is faring overall, and we’ve put together a graph showing how this compares to recent months:
Peak player count
The peak player count for the Call of Duty launcher on Steam came in October 2022 as 488,897 players hopped on at the same time. This was triggered by the launch of Modern Warfare 2.
A decline is always expected after the launch month of any given CoD, and that’s the case here with Black Ops 6 attracting a much higher average, and thus many more players for Warzone, than in earlier months.
Tens of thousands returned for the highly anticipated Season 1 update in Black Ops 6, which marked the integration of the new game into Warzone, bringing a whole new arsenal of weapons along with features like Omnimovement.
