Warzone Console Players Hit by Chat Bug

PlayStation and Xbox players in Warzone have been running into an issue that prevents them from using voice or text chat, with an on-screen message stating, “Voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions.” Developers have confirmed this is a bug and say they are currently looking into it.

The problem began after Warzone merged with Black Ops 7 on December 4, which introduced the new Haven’s Hollow map along with weapons and Operators from the latest title. Following the update, console players found themselves locked out of in-game communication features.

Although the issue was temporarily fixed during the Black Ops 7 free trial period, reports of the bug resurfaced on Monday, December 22.

Developers investigating Warzone chat bug

On the official Call of Duty: Warzone Known Issues page, developers acknowledged reports of players receiving the “Voice and text chat disabled due to platform restrictions” message.

They explained that teams are investigating a problem causing some players to see this notification when trying to join parties or use social features. The issue is also listed on the game’s Trello board for tracking known bugs.

At the moment, there’s no estimated date for a fix. However, an update likely won’t arrive until the development team returns from their holiday break in the new year. Not long after that, Season 1 Reloaded for Black Ops 7 and Warzone is set to launch, bringing new weapons, a Fallout crossover event, and additional content.

The Known Issues page also mentions another bug preventing players from equipping certain Black Ops 6 Ranked Play Operator skins. As a result, the Yokai, Cull, and Nocturne skins for Riptide, as well as the Numbers skin for Woods, have been disabled while developers investigate a visual issue.

For players who regularly team up across platforms, a temporary solution is to use Discord for voice chat, though in-game text chat will still be unavailable. Some users have also reported that upgrading to PlayStation Plus resolves the issue on PS4 and PS5, but this fix does not work for everyone.
