Crash Bandicoot Topping Sales

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy was launched on PC, Xbox One and Switch last month and has managed to retain the number one spot on UK’s video games sales chart for the second week in July. Among the new releases that couldn’t get the better of Activision’s new offering include Nintendo Switch’s RPG Octopath Traveler, Lego “The Incredibles” and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

The Crash Bandicoot series used to be a PlayStation exclusive, and by coming over to other platforms, has joined a roster of games including Metal Gear Solid and the Final Fantasy series that formerly used to be exclusive but hopped over to other platforms Does this mean IPs like Uncharted and The Last of Us will also migrate to Xbox One and PC?

Analysts believe that Lego “The Incredibles” could spike up in popularity once the movie gains momentum across theaters. Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler sold better than what it was given credit for, taking up the cozy spot at number three, outselling Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and God of War.

It is interesting to note that Grand Theft Auto 5 is absent from the top 10s sales list yet again. A possible reason is that the popular sandbox game is approaching its true sales potential and once the user base saturates, there won’t be any more noticeable sales and Rockstar will be forced to come up with a new launch!

Speaking of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, the game is a remastered collection of the first titles in the Crash Bandicoot series. Developers Vicarious Visions made several tweaks to the gameplay but were careful enough not to deviate from the tried and tested hardcore speedrunners formula that fans have taken to. If you tried the game when it first launched in 1996, you would feel a tinge of nostalgia coated with modern overtones – but is that really all that good?

Some reviewers feel that the game’s clinginess to the past is becoming its own undoing. The platformer is old and carries over the notorious punishing precision jumps, damaging traps and overpowered enemies who can kill you with one hit. This approach has many gamers divided over the decision to return to a bygone era.

The good news is that fans of the swashbuckling series will get the same vibes of nostalgic frustration across the Switch and Xbox One. The visuals will likely have many players stare at their screens in awe at the brightly designed 3D world. Although when players will switch to the handheld, they will notice a slight dip in resolution, but that shouldn’t be able to take away from the overall experience.

There are two new additional levels called Stormy Ascent and Future tense, which guarantee that players will get to have a versatile experience of both old and new. The updated graphics and a new soundtrack have a charisma of their own and will make the game standout.

If you want a modern approach to the old Crash Bandicoot experience with updated graphics, you will not go wrong with N-sane Trilogy.
