Griffin Ends SKTs Playoff Hopes

The Korean unkillable demon king, Faker, and his team have been eliminated from playoff contention. The team has consistently made playoffs and performed above average, but this split has shown inconsistency with the roster and the meta. SKT has been subbing in Pirean, a mid-laner most notably known for his performance on Team Envy and Phoenix 1, for Faker. The meta has kept shifting as big changes have hit week after week and supportive and pick style mid laners have been preferred. Kkoma and the team have made the decision to keep him subbed out, but now it is too late for them to make playoffs.

Griffin took down SKT down with their teamfighting prowess. SKT’s mechanical skill net them early leads in both games of the set, but Griffin weathered the storm and turned the tables instantly. Their map control strangled SKT out of resources and eventually forced SKT into desperation fights which were easily quelled. SKT cannot catch up to Hanwha Life or Afreeca and therefore, they are out of playoffs regardless of their record from here on out. SKT’s last hope to making World’s is the regional final’s qualifier. The team must fight through the gauntlet from the bottom and win sets versus the teams above them. They cannot lose a single set in the gauntlet or their year ends there. For SKT fans, it’s a disappointment to not see Faker at worlds, and the team wants their shot at redemption for their failure to perform at last year’s grand finals.
