Warzone Weapon Changes

Call of Duty: Warzone is rolling out sweeping changes to its weapons system right on the cusp of Black Ops 7 Season 1, prioritizing balance to keep the battle royale fresh and engaging throughout the new Black Ops 7 era.

This year is pivotal for Warzone, as the franchise grapples with retaining its massive player base amid stiff competition from titles like Battlefield RedSec. Raven Software, the game's developer, recently acknowledged that Warzone—particularly modes like Resurgence—has grown stale for many, prompting bold innovations to revitalize the experience.

Raven Software detailed its plans in a comprehensive X thread, centering on a core philosophy: "expanding build diversity and making every decision meaningful."

To deliver this, the team pledges up to four weapon meta updates per season—potentially every two weeks, given Call of Duty's typical two-month seasons. This aggressive cadence aims to prevent repetition and ensure constant evolution.

Season 1's Warzone integration will spotlight the incoming Black Ops 7 weapons, but legacy guns from previous titles will stick around for blueprint enthusiasts and nostalgia seekers.

To make each weapon class stand out with a distinct purpose, Raven is enforcing five-attachment limits per gun and axing the Gunfighter Wildcard. Overkill is now a standard feature for all players, no perk slot required.

Attachments get a Warzone-exclusive makeover, with stats fine-tuned for the mode's unique pacing, engagement ranges, and time-to-kill. "The difference will be immediately noticeable," Raven promises.

Key weapon identity tweaks include:

  • Assault Rifles: Magazines capped at 60 rounds to protect LMG supremacy.

  • Slug Pump Shotguns: Capable of one-shot headshots at maximum range.

  • Recoil Overhaul: Taming heavy recoil demands multiple attachments, while wild-recoil weapons see bigger gains from control options—every choice counts.
