VALORANT Console Port Being Prototype

VALORANT has only been out for days, but Riot Games is looking to the future of the tactical shooter. The possibility of the title being ported to consoles isn’t off the table as of yet, according to executive producer Anna Donlon, but only if it can regain a “strong level of competitive integrity.”

“We are definitely prototyping that right now," Donlon told Gamespot. "But there's a way to play this game and there's a way to experience this game that we're not entirely sure translates completely to console play. If we feel like we can deliver this experience on those platforms, we absolutely will.”

Console play isn’t necessarily a priority for Riot as of now. With the game only just launching on PC, there is inevitably a lot of detail to be tended to. The release came with a new character, a new map, and game type. In addition, players are hoping for the launch of Competitive play, especially as the esports side of the game begins to ramp up.

Teams like 100 Thieves, Sentinels, TSM, and Dignitas Female have all started preparing for VALORANT esports, and more are sure to start growing rosters soon.

However, console inclusion could introduce more to the title.

“It's not a no, for sure,” Donlon continued. According to her, some designers on the team are “very excited” to highlight the potential of VALORANT on consoles. According to Donlon, it isn’t an immediate focus. “If we were to do it, it'll definitely be delayed.”

The possibility of having VALORANT on the Xbox or PlayStation is exciting news for console players unable to jump into the shooter. By opening the door to more players, VALORANT could potentially tap into millions of console competitors, an impressive feat considering the closed beta attracted three million players daily on PC alone.
