Mercedes Announces F1 Esports Team

Esports have never been taken more seriously and still aren’t recognized as a growing sports field, but with every passing day, more and more companies are realizing the potential in the industry. Mercedes is the latest to join the esports as its launched its latest esports team.

Getting ahead of this year’s F1 Esports Series, Mercedes has already compiled players for their team, and some of them are established names in the esports world. The new esports team recruited the first ever F1 Esports Series champion Brendon Leigh. The 18-year-old Brit stole the show after being hit by an opponent that should have taken him out of the race, but a perfect lap from Leigh while his opponent cut a corner gave Leigh the chance to take the crown by six points. Joining Leigh on the Mercedes’ team are Harry Jacks, Patrick Krutyi and Dani Bereznay. Mercedes selected Bereznay at the F1 Esports Pro Draft this year.

The Mercedes’ team came just in time for this year’s F1 Esports Series. Kicking off in October, the new F1 esports team will be playing for the crown on the latest version of F1. They will be based at Brackley factory where an esports training center will be built to help the team improve and hone their gaming skills. The facilities is home to the driver-in-loop simulator developed for the original real F1 car driven by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. While it took F1 a while to develop its own Esports series, they were finally able to invite each F1 team to create their own esports team and recruit their players via the Pro Draft. All but Ferrari have announced their F1 Esports team for this year.

The newest esports team will work at getting situated and work on their team play before heading to play in the two month long F1 Esports Series. They will be facing eight other teams in October and race for the championship title in November.
